There is a specific place in the geographical space that marks a passage, a change of matter. A border that writes the separation between land and sea: it is the Coast.
There, where the surface of solid matter turns into water, we pause at the beginning, on the point from which "the beyond" departs. And in which two very different entities meet, generating opposites: certain and uncertain, beginning and end, solid and liquid. Separation and meeting, in fact.

From this apparently immobile place, I observe a landscape that changes continuously, the color and the currents of the sea, the quality of the light, the shape of the clouds and the shadows they cast, and I see another border and another passage: the Horizon . Where water becomes sky.

If I turn my back on the land, I can say with certainty that there it ends and the sea begins; if I turn around, however, the opposite is true. This is the place that greets new projects and that embraces them when they return castaways.

Along a short stretch of coast I walked on inhospitable stones, too small to be able to jump on and too large not to lose my balance. These stones, called Cocole, are found on a small beach under the "La Timpa" nature reserve, a protected area in the Acireale area.
Despite the inconvenience, I walked this incision of the Sicilian east coast because I wanted to tell its beauty in the shape of its stones. Round or flat, tapered or thick, smooth or rippled, lava or basaltic, punctured by the air of lava effusions, black, gray, grizzled, streaked, light gray, dark gray and all absolutely imperfect and perfectly smooth. An amazing exercise of nature on variations.

I wanted to tell the peculiarity of this place, I said, and since I had wanted to work clay for a long time, I thought of doing it with an object, the bowl: archetype, symbol and minimal form for the consumption of food, which changed the way of eating of man in history. With the spirit of Homo Faber, I therefore followed man's natural ability to build what he needs by finding the raw resources in the natural environment.
